The European Meeting on Fire Retardant Polymeric Materials conference was held in Budapest between August 29 and September 1, 2021, organized by the BME FirePharma research group and the Department of Polymer Technology. The main topics of the conference were: development of innovative, environmentally friendly flame retardant methods and additives, flame retardant mechanism of action, flammability test methods, modeling and prediction, processing and recycling of flame retardant polymers.

Corona alternating current electrospinning (C-ACES), a scaled-up productivity electrospinning method was developed by combining the intense forces of the alternating electrostatic field and a sharp-edged spinneret design with increased free surface. C-ACES reached two orders of magnitude higher productivity (up to 1200 mL/h) than the classical single needle direct current electrospinning (DCES) without any alteration of fiber properties.

Real-time feedback control of twin-screw wet granulation based on image analysis

The aim of our research was to produce poly (lactic acid)(PLA) fibres with diameters in the micrometer size range, serving as the reinforcing phase in self-reinforced (SR) PLA composites. Nonwoven PLA mats were manufactured by solvent-free melt-blowing technology. Three types of PLA differing in d-lactide content were processed with a productivity as high as 36 g/h. The crystallinity of the PLA microfibres was enhanced by thermal annealing. A 2–3-fold increase in the degree of crystallinity was obtained, as measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
